HARBINGERS OF DEATH

During the 1940 Soviet-Finnish war the State secret police or NKVD’s internal security units were ordered to set up blocking positions behind the crumbling Red Army front line. They rounded up deserters, hunted down saboteurs and restored order, their methods were brutal and arbitrary but they prevented a general collapse of the front.During the German invasion of the Soviet Union the following year the head of the NKVD, Beria unleashed his death squads on the retreating Red Army. Yet again Stalin’s henchmen went about their grisly task notably during the battles for Leningrad, Stalingrad and Moscow. This new set of WWII 20mm scale figures allows you to re-create the so-called ‘control-preventative detachments’ of the NKVD covering the period 1940 to 1942.
